Chelsea NY: Viridian Artists is pleased to present “cOLD Times,” Viridian Artists’ Annual Holiday Exhibition of outstanding art by artists who are part of Viridian Artists and invited guest artists. The show opens Tuesday, November 26 and continues through Saturday, December 21, 2024, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, December 7, 4–6pm and a Closing Reception on Saturday, December 21, 4–6pm.

This season, as our walls become filled and our pockets become leaner, the art in this exhibit is all priced at $500 or less and the size of each artwork no larger than 30 inches.
As the world becomes more and more technologically advanced, change has become nearly instantaneous and much of the cultures of the world and their traditions are changing so rapidly that we have lost a sense of many of our long-standing traditions. There is less talk about Santa coming down the chimney and more talk about the trees that are being salvaged for decoration at a time when all of nature is threatened. We must take the environment into consideration with every act, since global warming and climate destruction has become more real, more rapidly than we ever thought it would happen.
But within all the ceremonies lost, the memories remain, and the giving of gifts remains an important part of the holiday season. We have so much and yet we want more, and we want to express our caring by giving something special to those we are close to. We hope that giving art will become part of the solution and we look forward to seeing you as we celebrate an important tradition for all.

Viridian Artists “Deciduous Dragons” recent work by Kathleen King was on exhibit from May 22nd thru June 16th. The reception was on Thursday May 24th from 6pm to 8pm.

Fantastic and exotic representational subjects sourced from objects found in nature such as dried plant detritus, (leaves, pods, twigs, etc…) are ruminated over, then transformed into bronzes and paintings in this most recent solo exhibit of Kat’s work.

King states: “Elevating the humblest of discarded botanical fragments to iconic status for the viewer’s contemplation is an ongoing concept in my drawings, paintings and sculptures. I reconfigure the botanical/detritus fragments into small 3D models. Contemplating these models, I transform them into metaphorical subjects in the final art works.”

Artist/Educator Kathleen King is currently represented by Viridian Artists, INC and has been represented by the gallery since 2001.

Ms. King has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as an Assistant Adjunct Prof. from 1989 to 2001 in the SAIC Print Media Dept. The artist has also taught at Loyola University, Chicago from 1977 to 2009 as an Adjunct Prof.

In the near future, Ms. King will be teaching drawing and watercolor courses as a Visiting Adjunct Prof. in the Korea University 2018 International Summer Campus Program. The artist has been invited to teach in the KU ISC Program almost every summer since 2007.

Ms. King is also currently on the board of the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts, located on the Greek island of Skopelos in the Aegean Sea. Besides serving on the board, Kathleen has taught courses and workshops at the foundation’s print shop. www.skopartfoundation.org

Diva” is defined as a distinguished woman singer. Other definitions are Goddess,Deity and Prima Donna. Ms. King has come to see these abstracted totemic figures in her latest paintings as “ Divas,”-- extremely temperamental and demanding attention!

Kathleen King had an etching,done in the 70's when she was a student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, included in this group exhibition. This print is in the archives at the museum and was shown in the Print and Drawing Galleries at the Art Institute of Chicago, along with other students and faculty who were producing prints at the School at that time.

Ms. King had 3 paintings included in this group show: “Viridian Artists,New York and Tokyo” at Onward Gallery, Nihonbashi, Tokyo, Japan in October - November. 2010.
