Chelsea: Viridian Artists is pleased to present “Amongst the Gems: Improvised Light and Dark Narratives of Tangible Fantasies”, recent work by Kathleen King on exhibit September 5th – September 30th. There will a reception with the artist in attendence on Thursday, September 7th, 6-8pm.
In Kathleen King’s most recent exhibit at Viridian, she is showing recent digital prints on canvas of photographic compositions that she has created from found objects, dried plants, bits of plastic, ribbons, and other, often disparate materials, creating a fantasy of realism about metaphorical themes. Over the photographic images, she has painted passages of, first, acrylic, then, oil paint, creating a mixed media barrage of elements and illusory images on canvas.
King feels the photographic elements in the digital print lend an anchor of observed realism to her themes of fantasy narratives which evolve from her improvised passages of paint. The artist’s themes are darkly whimsical, and she invites viewers to give the images their own interpretative meanings.
The artist has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the SAIC Print Media Dept., at Loyola University in Chicago as an Adjunct Professor, in the Fine Arts Dept. and recently, Representational Drawing and Watercolor at Korea University’s International Summer Campus Program as a Visiting Adjunct Professor.
Kat will be holding a 2 Day Workshop in Hand-printing Monoprints at the Naples Art Institute February 15 and 16th, 2024. In Naples Florida.
