Source references for Kathleen King's work are taken from botanical fragments and other detritus, which in turn, are used as models for the central subjects in these mixed media paintings. Suggestive of Baroque Art, wallpaper and comic visual art, the resulting hypnotic tableaux are “flora into fauna fables” that unfold before the viewer as each painting is contemplated. Each central subject may be seen as beautiful,cute or monstrous. The fantastic content emerges, in improvised stages, as layers of collage, hand drawn and painted passages are intermixed.
